Lady Raiders Defeat Carlow 79-62

The Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team (9-7, 2-2 AMC) defeated Carlow University Celtics (6-8, 1-5AMC) 79-62 in an AMC home game on January 8 at the Voller Athletic Center. 

The Raiders were ahead 16-15 with 11 minutes and 12 seconds on the clock in the first half. They pushed their lead to 11 points after a layup by Tiffany Wilson and led 35-26 at the halftime buzzer.
The Celtics came within 6 points in the second half after a jumper by Sarah MacAteer at 17:53, but the Raiders countered with a 12-2 run, with point contributions coming from 6 players. The Roberts' women pushed their lead to 22 points after a three pointer by Brittany Williams with one minute of play remaining.

The teams shot evenly from the field, the Raiders making 36.8% of their shots and the Celtics connecting on 37.5% of their attempts. Both teams also shared the ball, dishing 18 and 15 assists, respectively. The Roberts' women were active on the defensive end, forcing 27 turnovers and making 17 steals compared to the Celtics' 7. The Celtics forced 12 turnovers and won the rebound battle 46-41.
The Raiders exhibited balance in their offense with involvement from multiple players. Junior forward  Bianca Jones continued her strong play, leading the way with 15 points, 7 boards, 2 assists, and 2 blocks. Junior guard Brittany Williams followed with 12 points, 3 steals, and 1 assist. Senior point guard Cynnetha Bellinger contributed 10 points, 4 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal.  Sophomore guard Marissa Bunce added 9 points, 2 steals, and 1 assist. Senior forward Brittany McMillon and junior forward Sarah Child each finished with 8 points. McMillon added 5 assists, 5 boards, and 3 steals, and Child contributed 6 boards, 1 block, and 1 steal. Senior point guard Tiffany Wilson chipped in 7 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

Sarah MacAteer led the Celtics with 18 points. Danielle Lindsey added 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 steals and Angelica Pantojas contributed 10 points.
 
After the game, Coach Bob Segave said,” We really played well today, especially in the second half. The team shared the ball well, as was evident with our 18 assists. We had good spacing and execution on the offensive end and we were working hard on the defensive end. Our team is getting healthy again, so our depth will continue to be an important factor as we head into the teeth of our conference schedule.”


The Raiders hit the hardwood next in an AMC contest against Malone University on January 15, 2011 at 2 P.M.
