The Roberts Wesleyan College women's basketball team (10-7, 3-2 AMC) defeated Malone University (5-14, 1-5AMC) 82-50 in an AMC contest on Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the Voller Athletic Center.
Despite Malone's 7-6 lead early in the first half, the Raiders went on a 29-6 run in the next 8 minutes. Leading the run were junior forward
Brittany Williams and senior forward
Brittany McMillon, with 9 and 7 points respectively. The Raiders pushed their lead to 31 points and closed the half 51-20. The Roberts' women lead exploded to 41 after a 3 pointer from
Lindsay Kendall with 8 minutes and 30 seconds remaining in the second half, and the Lady Raiders maintained at least a 32 point lead for the rest of the game.
The Roberts' women shot 44.4% from the field, compared to the Pioneers who connected on 33.9% of their attempts. The Raiders moved the ball well, dishing out 22 assists. Senior point guards
Tiffany Wilson and
Cynnetha Bellinger combined for 7 assists and no turnovers. Malone also shared the ball, making 13 assists.
The Raiders were active on the defensive end, forcing 20 turnovers. They also grabbed 16 steals to Malone's 8 and won the rebound battle 47-33.
McMillon finished the game with a double double. She led all scorers with 18 points, and contributed a game-high 11 rebounds as well as 3 steals, 2 assists, and 1 block. Williams joined her in double figures with 12 points and added 2 assists. Junior forward
Bianca Jones chipped in 11 points and 2 blocks. Wilson finished with 7 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals.
The Pioneers were led by Alison Schloz with 10 points, 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 1 steal.
The Raiders begin a difficult conference road swing next week at Point Park University. The AMC game is Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 6 P.M. at the CCAC-South Gymnasium in West, Mifflin PA.
