The Raiders (11-7, 4-2 AMC) beat Point Park University (10-7, 2-4 AMC) 70-43 in an AMC contest on January 18, 2011 at the CCAC-South Gymnasium in West Mifflin, Pa.
Roberts controlled the game from the beginning, starting with a 10-0 run in the first three and a half minutes with contributions coming from 4 players. The Raiders were leading by 18 with 7 minutes remaining in the first half after a layup by sophomore guard
Marissa Bunce. The Pioneers responded with a 10-5 run, but were still down 31-18 at the halftime buzzer.
The Pioneers were weakened when Joncelyn Peterkin suffered from an ankle injury with 3 minutes remaining in the first half, and she remained out for the rest of the game. The Raiders continued their dominant offensive game, pushing their lead to as much as 31 points in the second half and finishing with a 27 point margin.
Offensively, the Raiders were 35.8% from the field compared to the Pioneers who made 25% of their shots (including 0 for 13 on threes). The Raiders again demonstrated balance in their scoring with four players scoring in double figures. Roberts also handed out 18 assists to Point Park's 7. Point Park did force 15 turnovers and made 15 of their 20 free throw attempts at 75%.
Defensively, the Raiders made 13 steals, with senior point guard
Tiffany Wilson and junior forward
Brittany Williams leading the way with 3 each. The Raiders also forced 22 Pioneers turnovers. They won the boards 56-40, with junior forward
Bianca Jones leading the way with 13.
The Raiders, winners of three straight AMC games, were led by Bunce with 14 points (including 4 threes), 3 assists, and a steal. Senior forward
Brittany McMillon followed with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. Wilson and junior forward
Sarah Child each added 10 points. Wilson also contributed 4 assists and 3 steals, while Child finished with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. Senior point guard
Cynnetha Bellinger chipped in 9 points and 2 steals. Jones ended with 7 points, 13 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist.
“We got another solid team effort tonight against a very good team,” said Raider coach
Bob Segave. “The team worked really hard at both ends of the floor. We did a great job defending their guards and we worked extremely hard on the defensive boards. Having four players in double figures was a testament to our willingness to make the extra pass on offense. I am very proud of our team.”
The Raiders hit the road this weekend in two AMC games against Notre Dame College on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 6 P.M. and Ursuline College on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 2 P.M.
