Men's Soccer Beat Houghton, Advance to AMC Final

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (November 4, 2011) – The Men's Soccer team defeated the Houghton College Highlanders 3-2 this evening to advance to the American Mideast Conference final.

The Raiders will face the Point Park University Pioneers tomorrow afternoon at 1pm for a chance to qualify for the NAIA Tournament. Tomorrow's winner will face the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play-in winner with an NAIA berth on the line.

Senior forward Dominic Coco led the Raiders with two goals in the first half. Coco's first goal came in the 9th minute and later added the second with a penalty kick in the 23rd minute.

The Highlanders would respond with two goals from Michael Dix in the 26th and 45th minutes to even the score 2-2.

The game-winner came off the foot of junior defender Andrew Vanderhoof in the 62nd minute off a free kick from Derrek Holmes.

The Raiders edged the Highlanders in shots-on-goal (9-7). The Highlnders finished with six corner kicks to the Raiders 1 and shots 13-12.
