The women's tennis team won two American Mideast Conference matches over the weekend defeating Ursuline College 9-0 and Cedarville University 8-1.
In the first match of the weekend, the Raiders blanked Ursuline College 9-0. In all six singles matches, the Raiders won in straight sets. In first singles, senior Kristen Hemingway defeated Betsy Edwards 6-0, 6-0. At second singles, Meghan Wheeler defeated Jamie Fox 6-1, 6-0. In third singles, Dina Obukhova defeated Megan Bus 6-3, 6-1. At fourth and fifth singles, Maria Jimenez defeated Melissa Mihalek 6-0, 6-0 and Meg Kelly defeated Eugenia Bermudez 6-0, 6-0. Lauren Schaertel rounded out the singles matches with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over A. Lester 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles matches, Kristen Hemingway and Wheeler defeated Bus and Fox 8-4 at first doubles. IN second doubles, Maria Jimenez and Dina Obukhova defeated Mihalek and Edwards 8-0. In third doubles Meg Kelly and Kaylee Eamer defeated Bermudez and Lester 8-2.
In the second match of the weekend, the Raider took on Cedarville University. The match started with doubles competition and the Raiders holding a 2-1 lead as the Raiders won at first and second doubles. In first doubles, Kristen Hemingway and Meghan Wheeler won their fourth straight doubles match with a 8-1 victory over Joy Kellogg and Brooke Johnson. At second doubles, Dina Obukhova and Maria Jimenez won their fourth straight match with a 8-3 victory over Joy Dice and Melissa Stolzfus 8-3. Cedarville's lone point came at third doubles with Lyndsay Stine and Emma Rahn defeating Meg Kelly and Kaylee Eamer 8-4.
After leading 2-1 after doubles competition, the Raiders swept all six singles matches. After dropping the first set in first singles 1-6, Kristen Hemmingway went on to defeat Joy Kellogg 6-0, 6-4. At second singles, Meghan Wheeler defeated Brooke Johnson 6-3, 6-1. At third and fourth singles, Dina Obukhova defeated Joy Dice 7-5, 6-2 while Maria Jimenez posted a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Emma Rahn at fourth singles. At fifth singles, Meg Kelly defeated Lyndsay Stine 6-2, 6-0. At sixth singles, Lauren Schaertel defeated Cindy Hoke 6-3, 7-6.
With the two victories the Rapiers improve to 14-3 overall and 4-1 in the American Mideast. The Raiders as back in action on April 26 at 4:00pm as they travel to RIT for their final regular season match.
