ROCHESTER, N.Y. (August 27, 2011)
– The Raiders overcame the crushing overtime loss a day ago to defeat the visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene University Cougars 2-0. The goals came from freshmen Michael Cunningham and Stephen Stewart. However, the man of the match was freshman goalkeeper Michael Scavone.

Scavone made key saves to keep the clean sheet in his debut at the college level. Scavone finished the match with four saves.

Michael Cunningham gave the Raiders the lead in the 20th minute. Cunningham received a beautiful long ball from goalkeeper Michael Scavone, weaving through two defenders and blasted a shot to the left post from 10-yards out on the right side. For the second time in as many games, the Raiders have scored first. In the first half, the Raiders were able to pick apart the Cougars' defense.

In the 31st minute, Stephen Stewart added the second goal of the game with a 15-yard shot from the left side. Going into halftime, the Raiders held the Cougars attack to only two corner kicks and no shots on goal.

In the second half, Johnny Lobene found himself in open space, but the Cougars' keeper, Ryan Swartzenburger got a hand on the ball and deflected it wide of the goal.

Scavone came up big in the 82nd minute when he made a gutsy save as he came off his line and collided with Cougars' Josh Selle and stole the ball away before the impact.

The Cougars added on the pressure the last five minutes, but Scavone and the Raiders defense held to keep the score 2-0.

The team improved to 1-1-0 after their first weekend in 2011. The Raiders are back in action this Friday as they host Bethel College (Ind.), their third straight Mid-Central Conference opponent this season. First kick is set for 7:00PM.
