ROCHESTER, N.Y. (September 10, 2011) – The Raiders added a much needed win as the team defeated the University of Scranton Royals 3-0 this afternoon.
In the 8th minute, Michael Cunningham started the scoring with a shot 10 yards out after dribbling past several defenders to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.
The Royals had their first good look in the 26th minute when Paul Trisuzzi had a shot in the penalty box, but Raiders goalkeeper, Eric Read had no trouble with the save.
Dominic Coco sent a screaming shot just inches over the crossbar three minutes later for the Raiders.
Senior Brent Owens notched his first goal of the game in the 39th minute when he got a shot off as he was falling to the ground 7 yards out in front of the goal.
The Raiders had a chance in the 53rd minute when Coco found himself in open space after Jake Zito sent in a terrific through ball. Coco's shot was identical to the shot in the first half, missing just high over the crossbar.
Stephen Stewart notched his second goal of the season in the 76th minute when he picked up a cross from Gregg Reuter on the left side, juggled the ball for a moment and sent the ball past the Royals goalkeeper, James Dillon.
The Raiders improve to 2-3-0 on the season with the win. The team hits the road this week when they visit SUNY Oswego on Tuesday. The team then heads to Boston to face Fisher College on Friday and Saturday to open conference play.
