ROCHESTER, N.Y. (September 2, 2011) – The Men's Soccer team lost to Bethel College 2-1 Friday night in a tense atmosphere throughout the match.
The Raiders opened up the scoring in the 6th minute off the foot of Donovan Wilson. Wilson found the back of the net in traffic in the 6-yard box and easily beat Pilot's goalkeeper, Cody Troyer.
Ten minutes later, the Pilots responded when Luke Davis dribbled into the 18-yard box and blasted a shot past Raiders goalkeeper Michael Scavone.
In the 32nd minute the Pilots took the lead when Timothy Wilson beat Scavone one-on-one near the right post.
In the second half, neither team could muster anything as tempers clearly began to show and fouls mounted for teams. In the 66th minute Tyler Fiamengo was given a yellow card for a hard tackle in the Raiders defensive third.
Play continued to be chippy the rest of the way as both teams were unable to find a rhythm.
In the 82nd minute, Dominic Coco had a one-on-one breakaway, but slipped on the wet turf and failed to capitalize on the opportunity. Three minutes later, Wilson sent in a cross, but Troyer intercepted the pass intended for Coco.
With a minute to play Matthew Hohler was sent off after his second hard challenge of the match. The red card is the second for the Raiders in three games.
With the loss, the Raiders fall to 1-2-0 and host the University of Maine – Ft. Kent tomorrow at 4pm.
