ROCHESTER, N.Y. (September 3, 2011) – The Raiders failed to convert on a number of late chances and lost 3-1 to the visiting Maine-Ft. Kent Bengals.
The Bengals got on the board first when Phathizwe Sacolo earned a penalty kick in the 11th minute. The freshman coolly slotted the ball past Raiders goalkeeper Eric Read to put the visitors up 1-0.
In the 30th minute, Sacolo chipped in his second goal of the game off a Jack Petrie cross into a crowded 6-yard box, beating a helpless Read in the traffic.
In the 44th minute, Ricky DiPasquale made a key block to keep a Bengals shot from crossing the goal line that would have added to their lead.
Wilfried Monthe added a third goal in the 61st minute with an easy tap-in inside the goalie's box off a pass from Jamie De Abreu.
The Raiders drew one back off the head of Gregg Reuter in the 67th minutes to make the score 3-1. Senior Dominic Coco sent in a cross from the right side connecting with the freshman 8-yards out.
The Raiders had a great opportunity to cut into the Bengals lead when Michael Cunningham's free kick was on frame from 25 yards out on the left side. Cunningham's kick made Bengals 'keep David Girourd make a diving save to deflect it wide.
The Raiders had plenty of chances in the last ten minutes, but were unable to convert on any of the missed opportunities.
With the loss, the Raiders fall to 1-3-0. The team plays next Saturday when they host the University of Scranton at 3:00PM
