ROCHESTER, N.Y. (October 2, 2012) – The Men's Soccer team travels south this evening to take on Houghton College in non-conference action. The NCCAA East Region rivals will square off at 7pm.
This will be the first of two meetings this season as the Highlanders will visit Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday, November 3 at 2pm.
SCOUTING ROBERTS WESLEYAN (3-6-0/0-3-0 ECC)
The Redhawks are looking to get back into the win column after suffering a 2-1 overtime loss to conference opponents New York Institute of Technology this past Saturday. Sophomore
Michael Cunningham scored the lone goal for the Redhawks in the 6
th minute, but the team was unable to hold on to the one goal lead.
Cunningham had a successful run last week, scoring three goals in two games. The forward netted two of the Redhawks' three goals in their win over Buffalo State last Wednesday (Sep. 26).
Despite the team's record, Roberts Wesleyan has been competitive in all of their games. In five of the six losses, the Redhawks have lost by one goal, including three losses ending in overtime.
Goalkeeper
Michael Scavone has been solid in front of the net, making 40 saves and holds a .727 save percentage.
SCOUTING HOUGHTON (3-5-1/0-2-0 E8)
The Highlanders have had their ups and downs in their first season in the Empire 8 Conference (NCAA Division III). As of late, Houghton has dropped their last two games and four of their last five. However, their last three losses have been close with all of them ending in 1-0 results.
Freshman Tyler Ashley leads the Highlanders with six points (3 goals) while junior Paul Seddon is right behind with five points (1 goal, 3 assists).
In goal, Tyler Mastin has started eight of the Highlanders' nine games, making 36 saves with an impressive .837 save percentage. The junior has also recorded two shutouts this season.
UP NEXT
The Redhawks will travel to Long Island this weekend for two conference games on Friday and Sunday. The team will take on Dowling College on Friday (Oct. 5) at 7pm and will then face Molloy College two days later at 2:30pm.
