OAKDALE, N.Y. (October 5, 2012) – Derrek Holmes scored the game winner in overtime to lift the Redhawks to 2-1 victory over Dowling College and their first ever East Coast Conference win this evening.
Michael Cunningham gave the visitors the opportunity to win the game after scoring the equalizer in the 88
th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
In overtime, Homles was able to use his head off of Cunningham's corner kick in the 100
th minute to send itpast Dowling's goalkeeper Chris Friedl.
The Redhawk's defense was able to subdue Dowling's attack as the Golden Lions managed just one shot on goal despite outshooting the Redhawks 13 to 12.
The win puts the Redhawk's overall record at 4-7-0 and 1-3-0 in the East Coast Conference.
The team is off tomorrow before facing Molloy College this Sunday afternoon in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
