ROCHESTER, N.Y. (November 2, 2012) – The Men's Soccer team closed out the regular season in stunning fashion, taking down Houghton College in double overtime, 2-1.

Stephen Stewart scored the game-winner with just under two minutes expired in the final overtime period by sending a streaking shot past the Highlanders' Tyler Mastin from the right side in open space to the inside of the left post.

Early in the first half, the Redhawks got on the scoreboard first when junior Johnny Lobene scored in the 12th minute after receiving the ball from Michael Cunningham.

With ten minutes remaining in the half, the Highlanders equalized when Michael Amico beat Michael Scavone, sending the teams into the locker rooms with a 1-1 score line.

Things would get tense in the second half as both sides looked to take the advantage, however neither side would find the back of the net through regulation.

In the first overtime period, the Redhawks thought they had the game winner when Cunningham blasted a free kick from 30 yards out. The ball hit the crossbar, but bounced out in Houghton's favor.

Overall, the Redhawks out-shot the Highlanders 12 to 9, but Houghton edged the home team with 5 shots on goal compared to 4 for Roberts Wesleyan.

In goal, Scavone was called upon to make four saves in the game while picking up the win.

The Redhawks, who fell to the visitors on Oct. 2 in Houghton, were able to end the regular season on a high note as they prepare for the upcoming NCCAA East Region Tournament.

The win also allowed the Redhawks to finish the season at .500 with a 8-8-1 overall record.

With other teams finishing up the regular season, the Redhawks do not yet know where they will be seeded in the upcoming NCCAA East Region Tournament.
