KISSIMMEE, Fla. (November 29, 2012) – The Men's Soccer team defeated Grace (Ind.) College, 1-0, in a consolation game this afternoon in the NCCAA National Championship.
Senior forward
Donavan Wilson scored the game-winner in the 83
rd minute after playing a through ball on the left side from
Brandon Bianchi, sending it to the far post.
The goal is Wilson's fifth of the season and his second game-winner.
With the assist, Bianchi now has 17 points (6 goals, 5 assists) and is second on the team in that category.
The Redhawks, who will play in the 5
th Place game on Saturday morning, were outshot 14 to 13 in the game with
Michael Scavone being called on to make four saves. The sophomore goalkeeper now has five shutouts to his credit this season.
Despite being outshot, seventh-seeded Roberts Wesleyan pressured sixth-seeded Grace with six corner kicks compared to the Lancers' two corner opportunities.
The win improves the Redhawks' record to 11-9-1 with one more game remaining. The team will play the winner of the #5 Bethel (Minn.)/#8 McMurry (Texas) game on Saturday morning at 10am.
