ROCHESTER, N.Y. (December 8, 2012) – Sophmore forward
Marissa Sell paced the Redhawks with a game-high 18 points in a 73-43 win against the visiting Mercy College Mavericks in their East Coast Conference opener.
Sell, who came off the bench, went 7 of 10 from the field in the game in addition to hauling eight rebounds.
Joining Sell in double figures was
Ashley Cianfriglia and
Samantha Courtney. Cianfriglia finished the game with 11 points after hitting 4 of 5 from the field, including three from long range.
Courtney, a freshman, continued her steller debut season with 10 points and grabbing nine rebounds for the Redhawks. The forward shot 50% from the field and is averaging 11.9 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game.
As a team, Roberts Wesleyan shot 46.8% from the field while holding the Mavericks to just 19.4%.
Along with Sell's 18 points, the Redhawks bench made large contributions in the win by adding 37 points compared to Mercy's 10 bench points.
Both teams each grabbed 43 rebounds.
The Redhawks forced 19 turnovers, but were sloppy themselves by giving the ball away 21 times.
With the win, the Redhawks improve to 6-2 on the season and start ECC play 1-0.
The team is off until next Saturday when they travel to the nation's capital to take on the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia at 3pm.
