ALFRED, N.Y. (March 14, 2012) – The Women's Lacrosse team earned the program's first-ever win this evening by defeating the Alfred University Saxons on the road, 12-9.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first half, the Raiders responded by scoring the next five with goals coming from
Alison Kendal,
Vanessa Sell#, and Kara Farsnworth.
The Raiders continued their strong play in the second half with Thresea Catteau scoring three of her four goals in the second half.
As a team, the Raiders edged the Saxons in draws (15-9) and netted two free position shots.
In goal,
Stephanie McClure made nine saves in the game after playing the full 60 minutes.
Both Catteau and Sell had four points with Sell scoring three goals and notching one assist. Sell also led the team with four caused turnovers.
Kendall led the Raiders by winning six draws.
With the win, the Raiders are now 1-2 on the season.
The team will look to even their record when they make their home debut this Saturday when they host Elmira College at 1pm.
