BUFFALO, N.Y. (March 8, 2012) - The Women's Lacrosse team nearly tripled thier scoring outpu from thier inaugural game two days ago, but it wasn't enough as the Raiders lost to the Buffalo State Tigers this afternoon, 18-11.
The Raiders were able to keep things close early in the second period, until the Tigers scored four of the last six goals to wrap up the win for the home team.
The Raiders were only down by five goals five with 17 minutes on the clock in the second stanza when
Alison Kendall scored her sixth goal of the season from a free position shot to make it a 14-9 Tiger lead.
The visitors improved on thier draw controls in the game, edging the Tigers 15 to 14. Junior
Vanessa Sell finished the game with eight winning draws, a game high. Sell was nearly perfect on offense, scoring four goals in just five attempts. She now has tallied five goals over the team's first two games.
Theresa Catteau added two goals in the game for the Raiders, as the junior has netted three goals thus far in 2012.
Lauren Mueller led the team with two assists on the day.
The Raiders were able to take advantage of the Tigers' miscues by going a perfect 3 of 3 in free position attempts.
The team is back in action next Wednesday when they travel south to Alfred, N.Y. to take on Alfred Univeristy at 5pm. The Raiders will make thier home debut next Saturday at 1pm when they host Elmira College.
