NYACK, N.Y. (August 30, 2012) - The Men's Soccer team dropped their season opener to Nyack College this afternoon, 3-1.
The Nyack College Warriors got things going early when Toni Mutschler blasted home a shot from 23 yards out from the right side. A little more than fifteen minutes later, Marco Likos would make it a 2-0 lead for the defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament champions.
The Redhawks would respond coming out of halftime when freshman midfielder
Brandon Bianchi scored the lone goal for the Redhawks in fine fashion in the 49
th minute. Bianchi was able connect on a free kick opportunity from
Michael Cunningham, using his head to send to the ball past Nyack's goalkeeper, Jodel Wright.
After an evenly matched second half, the Warriors would find the back of the net one more time when Maxi Fuchs added the fourth goal of the game in the 76
th minute to seal the win for the hosts.
Bianchi, making his college debut led the Redhawks with three shots while putting two on frame. Newcomers
Alex Harling and
Tedroy Jackson each added shots on goals.
In goal, sophomore
Michael Scavone tallied four saves in the losing effort.
The Redhawks will stay in Nyack as they take on Bloomsburg (Pa.) University on Saturday afternoon. Bloomsburg fell 1-0 to Mercy College in the first game of the Nyack Invitational.
