SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (September 1, 2012) – The Women's Tennis team opened the 2012 fall season with losses on the road at Lake Superior State Tournament today.
The Redhawks fell to Aquinas (Mich.) College 7-2 in their early morning match, followed by an 8-1 loss to Michigan Tech.
Against Aquinas, Maria Jimenz and
Meg Kelly both picked up wins for the Redhawks. In third singles, Jimenz took down Rili DuShane in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 10-8) and Kelly won sixth singles over Marjeanne Bothma (7-5, 4-6, 10-8)
In the second match of the day, Jimenez was able to earn the victory over
Michigan Tech's Kira Eck (1-6, 6-3, 11-9).
The Redhawks will look to pick up their first win of the season tomorrow against the hosts when they close out the tournament at 1pm.
