BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (September 23, 2012) - The Men's soccer team traveled to Long Island this weekend, falling 3-2 to the LIU Post Pioneers.

Forward, Brent Owens, got the ball rolling, scoring off a free kick served from sophomore Steven Stewart 35 yards out. A quick counter attack was made by the Pioneers however, when they sunk a ball crossed in from the flanks with a one touch finish. At the end of the first half the score was tied 1-1.

As the second half proceeded, the Pioneers were able to get another one past the Redhawks after their right wing sent a flying ball into the box, with a one touch finish which boosted LIU Post into the lead.

In the 64th minute of play, LUI Post increased the score with yet another goal, giving them a cushion of a 3-1 lead.

But Roberts wasn't done battling just yet. With less than 10 minutes remaining, Michale Scavone assisted sophomore Michael Cunningham, who diced two defenders and placed the ball in the bottom right corner leaving the Redhawks only trailing by 1.  With the clock dwindling down and only 30 seconds remaining, Alex Harling cracked a shot in an attempt to equalize, but it flew just wide of the far post and the match ended 3-2 with LIU Post as the victors.

During the match, goalkeeper Michael Scavone was a force to be reckoned with— under a barrage of 24 shorts--coming up with 9 crucial saves including a penalty kick which he expertly blocked in the 78th minute.

With the loss, The Redhawks' record is now 2-5. They take on Buffalo State this Wednesday at 7pm at home.
