ROCHESTER, N.Y.
(September 29, 2012) - The Men's Soccer team lost a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss against NYIT this afternoon during Homecoming festivities.
In the first half, Roberts came out fast and strong when Sophomore
Michael Cunningham diced the entire Bear's defense up the end line and bent the ball far post past the outstretched arms of the NYIT goalkeeper.
In the second half, NYIT came back with an equalizer scoring in the 58th minute.
Despite numerous scoring opportunities created by the Redhawk's offense, regulation time ended in a 1-1 tie.
With less than 2 minutes left in the first overtime, the Bears ended the match with a low shot to the left hand corner resulting in a 2-1 loss for the Redhawks.
Goalkeeper
Michael Scavone was strong in the match, saving 5 hard shots out of a total of 16 attempts from the opposing team.
The match was a physical one, with a cumulative acquisition of 5 yellow cards between the two teamsincluding players
Matthew Hohler,
Brandon Conley, and
Michael Cunningham.
The team travels this Tuesday to play long-time rival Houghton College at 7pm.
