Women's Basketball Falls to Bridgeport at Home

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 23, 2013) – The Women's Basketball team dropped an 81-45 decision to the visiting Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport this evening.

The Redhawks never led in the game as Bridgeport jumped out to an early 9-2 lead. The Purple Knights shot 501.72% from the field in the first half to tame the home team, entering the locker room with a 32-22 lead.

The second half was also dominated by the visitors as Bridgeport used a 27-6 run over the first nine and a half minutes to secure the win.

Lakiah Huff and Marissa Sell each scored eight points for the Redhawks while Marissa Bunce, Sarah Alwardt and Ashley Ciangriglia added six points each.

Sell, who returned after missing four games due to injury, also grabbed six rebounds in the game for the Redhawks.  Alwardt finished with a team-high seven rebounds.

Bridgeport finished the game with four players scoring in double-figures as Priscilla Dodoo scored a game-high 22 points.

With the win, Bridgeport evened the season series with Roberts Wesleyan as the Redhawks downed the Purple Knights 66-57 back on Jan. 3.

The loss drops the Redhawks to 8-8 overall and 3-6 in the East Coast Conference.

Roberts Wesleyan is back in action this Saturday when they host the University of the District of Columbia with tip-off scheduled for 2pm.

Tickets to the game are $3 at the door. Faculty, staff, and students of Roberts Wesleyan College and Northeastern Seminary are free with a valid College ID.
