DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (January 31, 2013) – The Women's Basketball team used hot shooting from behind the three-point line to come away with an 80-60 win over Mercy College this evening.
The Redhawks nearly led from start to finish with the only blemish coming with Mercy scoring the first basket.
Roberts Wesleyan, however, never looked back as they went on an 18-2 run to start the game. The run was started with
Marissa Bunce hitting one of her six three's in a game that saw the visitors shoot 65% from beyond the arc.
Bunce led the way with 20 points after going 6 of 8 from long range and 7 of 11 from the field. Fellow guard Ashley Ciangfriglia was just as impressive, connecting on 5 of 6 from three-point range en route to scoring 15 points.
Forward
Marissa Sell earned a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds to go along with four assists and two blocked shots.
Senior Sarah Awlardt added 10 rebounds and five points for the Redhawks.
As a team, the Redhawks shot 49.2% from the field and out-rebounded the Mavericks 54 to 30.
The only slight for Roberts Wesleyan might have been the high amount of turnovers in the game. The Redhawks committed 22 turnovers while only forcing Mercy to turn the ball over 12 times.
The win improves Roberts Wesleyan to 10-8 overall and 5-6 in the ECC.
The team will have Friday off as they prepare for a Saturday match-up against the 25
th-ranked New York Institute of Technology at 12pm in Old Westbury, N.Y.
