Rochester, N.Y. (October 20, 2013) – Men's soccer tied Dowling College this afternoon.Â
Michael Cunningham scored in the first minute of play to give the Redhawks an exciting early lead. Â Dowling's keeper had blocked a shot and Cunningham was able to rebound it in.
Roberts kept  command of the game throughout the first half. When a foul was called in the box, Roberts's goalie
Florian witte , was able to save a penalty kick to keep Roberts in the lead. Witte totaled 8 saves for the game including a scramble to get back after a breakaway shot hit the post.
Redhawks second goal came in the 26
th minute. A cross came in from the right and was headed back into play by a Dowling defender.
Johnny Lobene drilled the ball across the 6 yard box and
Troy Bowersox, in prime position, was able to finish.
In the second Half Dowling saw an early goal in the 49
th minute, the result of a corner kick. Dowling totaled 10 corner kicks to Roberts 2. Roberts was unable to finish in the second half to give themselves a safe lead. Dowling scored their second
goal in the 84
th minute of play. Two of Dowlings forwards were able to get behind Roberts defenders after a free kick. The goal, shot from the left side of the 18 yard box, would push the game into overtime.
Robert's defense worked hard in over time to keep Dowling from scoring again. Roberts was unable to capitalize during over time despite high level of play.The game was highly competitive and phsycial; Two of Roberts players ended up with yellow cards.
The men's team has a quick turnaround this week to take on University of the District of Colombia on the road October 23.
