Cianfriglia's 23 Points Leads Women's Basketball Past Houghton

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (November 21, 2013) – Junior guard Ashley Cianfriglia poured in 23 points after hitting six shots from beyond the arc to lead Roberts Wesleyan past Houghton this evening, 84-59.

Cianfriglia went 8 of 14 from the field and 6 of 11 from three-point range for the Redhawks to lead a trio of players who scored in double-figures in the game.

Classmate Marissa Sell and sophomore Samantha Courtney each added 14 points for the Redhawks as Sell led with 18 rebounds and Courtney adding 12 boards.

Roberts Wesleyan was able to get the game under their control from the start as they jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first three minutes.

Houghton did make it competitive in the second half when they trailed by just seven points when Kristen Moose hit a three-point shot with 13:51 left to play. However, the Redhawks would then go on a 22-8 run over the next nine minutes to take control for good.

As a team, Roberts Wesleyan shot 38.8% from the field and a solid 34.4% from long range.

The win puts the Redhawks at 1-1 on the season as they now prepare to take on rivals, Daemen College, on Tuesday at 6pm at home in their East Coast Conference opener.
