OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (December 14, 2013) – The Women's Basketball team fell 62-54 on the road to New York Institute of Technology this afternoon in their first true road game of the season.
The visiting Redhawks fell into a quick hole to start the game as they found themselves trailing by 16 points when the Bears' Shannon Duer made a layup to make it a 21-5 lead.
After going into the locker room down 31-18, Roberts Wesleyan fought back in the second half, but were unable to come out with the win in their second East Coast Conference game of the year.
Chelsea Sanders led the Redhawks with a game-high 16 points after going 7 of 15 from the field. The senior nearly earned the double-double as she managed to haul in nine rebounds to go along with three blocked shots.
Junior guard
Ashley Cianfriglia also scored in double digits as she had 12 points after shooting 50% from beyond the arc by going 4 of 8.
Both teams shot 35% from the field, however the Bears were 24 of 68 while Roberts Wesleyan was 21 of 60.
For NYIT, four players scored in double digits with Duer leading the way with 12 points while grabbing eight rebounds.
The loss puts the Redhawks at 5-2 on the season and 1-1 in the East Coast Conference. Roberts Wesleyan is back in action tomorrow afternoon when they visit LIU Post at 1:30pm.
