Women's Basketball Defeat Nazareth in Wendy's College Classic, 71-51

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (December 3, 2013) – The Women's Basketball team used a strong second half to earn a 71-51 first round win over Nazareth College in the Wendy's College Classic this evening.

After trailing 34-33 at the half, the visiting Redhawks went on a 27-7 scoring run over the first 13 minutes of the second half to pull away from the Golden Flyers.

Roberts Wesleyan, the top seed in the eight-team tournament, was led by senior Chelsea Sanders, who scored a game-high and season-best 19 points after going 7 of 15 from the floor. The forward nearly earned a double-double after hauling in nine rebounds.

Sanders was effective on defense as she made six steals in the game as well as blocking a shot.
Freshman guard Emily Piacentini came off the bench to chip in 13 points as she hit three of five shots from beyond the arc.

Carneisha Henry also scored in double digits with a 10-point effort off the bench to go along with seven rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. Classmate Marissa Sell was one point shy of her third double-double of the season as she had nine points and 12 rebounds.

As a team, Roberts Wesleyan shot 44.3% from the field while holding the Golden Flyers to 34.5% in the game. In the second half, Nazareth managed to shoot just 25% from the field.

With the win, the Redhawks will host St. John Fisher College in a semifinal match-up at home on Thursday at 8pm inside the Voller Athletic Center.
