ROCHESTER, N.Y. (December 5, 2013) – The Women's Basketball team picked up a 64-60 win in the Wendy's College Classic semifinal this evening, punching their ticket to the final for the fourth time in five years.
Roberts Wesleyan was able to hold off the visiting Cardinals despite leading by as much as 16 points early in the second half. St. John Fisher was able to chip away at the lead in the second stanza to make it a competitive game.
After shooting 40% in the first half, the Redhawks shot just 27.3% from the field in the second. However, despite the poor second half shooting, Roberts Wesleyan held the Cardinals to just 27.4% from the field over the entire game.
For the Redhawks,
Chelsea Sanders earned the double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Teammates
Ashley Cianfriglia and
Lakiah Huff each added 12 points. Â
Cianfriglia was hot from long range, hitting 4 of 6 shot from behind the three-point line.
For St. John Fisher, Portia Velasco scored a game-high 21 points after hitting 8 of 17 from the field, including 4 of 7 from long range.
The win puts Roberts Wesleyan at 4-1 on the year as they prepare to take on SUNY Geneseo in the finals this Saturday at home. The game is scheduled for a 5:30pm tip-off.
