Men's Soccer Hosts Thruway Rival in Home Opener

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (September 4, 2013) – Head coach Mark Fish and the Redhawks open the 2013 season at home on Thursday as they take on their Thruway rival, Daemen College, at 7:30pm.

The game does not count as a conference match-up as the Wildcats return to Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday, Sep. 28 for their East Coast Conference meeting.

SCOUTING ROBERTS WESLEYAN (0-0-0/0-0-0 ECC)
Fish has reason to be optimistic as he returns the core of his starting line-up from a year ago. In fact, three of the top four points earners return for the Redhawks.

Leading the group up top is junior forward Michael Cunningham, who led the Redhawks in 2012 with 23 points (9 goals, 5 assists).

Other notable returners are Stephen Stewart and Brandon Bianchi. Both players led Roberts Wesleyan in assists as they each notched six assists a year ago.

SCOUTING DAEMEN (0-0-0/0-0-0 ECC)
Daemen begins their inaugural East Coast Conference season as they enter Candidacy Year Two in their move to the NCAA Division II. The Wildcats are still dually affiliated with the USCAA to maintain post-season opportunities though their transition.

On offense, senior forward Kyle Clifford returns for his final season after leading Daemen with seven points (2 goals, 3 assists) in 2012. Two years ago, Clifford racked up 34 points after scoring 16 goals.

In goal, junior goalkeeper Matt Daddario will lead the Wildcats after recording 77 saves and posting a 1.86 goals against average and .811 saves percentage.

UP NEXT
The Redhawks host former NCCAA East region foes, Nyack College, in a Saturday afternoon game with first kick slated for 2pm.
