Rochester, NY (January 25, 2014) - The women's basketball team beat St Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) this afternoon 66 - 53 this afternoon in conference play. This came after a quick turnaround from last night's win against Mercy.
Roberts took a decisive lead early on. The Redhawks kept the lead throughout, game and only allowed one tie score from the visiting Spartans. The Redhawks were able to capitalize on turnovers, scoring 18 of their points off STAC turnovers.
Junior,
Marissa Sell led the Redhawks in points, she had 12 points and 8 rebounds. Roberts forwards
Samantha Courtney and
Chelsea Sanders both notched a double double with 10 points 11 rebounds and 10 points 10 rebounds respectively. The freshman guard Emily Piacentine was the 4th Roberts player to put up points in the double figures she ended the afternoon with 10 points, 6 of which came from the 3 point line.
St Thomas Aquinas was able to tie Roberts midway through ] the second half. Sanders quickly took the lead back for the Redhawks with a quick layup assisted by Junior Guard
Ashley Cianfriglia. Cinfriglia was perfect from the line going 4 - 4, she also posted 4 steals for the Redhawks.
The win advances Roberts record to 8-8 and 4 - 6 in the ECC.
The Redhawks are on the road to face off their throughway rival, Daemen College, Tuesday January 28th at 6pm.
