AMHERST, N.Y. (January 28, 2014) – Junior forward
Marissa Sell scored a season-high 26 points to lead Roberts Wesleyan past rivals Daemen College on the road this evening, 76-61.
The Redhawks never trailed in the game as they jumped out to a quick 12-5 and never looked back. The visitors led by as much as 20 points late in the second half.
Sell, who went 9 of 17 from the field, was nearly perfect at the charity stripe after making 8 of 9 free throws. Her 26 points was a season-high for the Redhawks, eclipsing
Chelsea Sanders' 25-point effort on Jan. 10 against the University of the District of Columbia.
Sell picked up her seventh double-double of the season as she managed to haul in 15 rebounds.
Sanders, along with
Ashley Cianfriglia and
Samantha Courtney, scored 10 points for Roberts Wesleyan.
In the losing effort, the Wildcats were paced by Raeann Stilwell's 23 points as the guard shot 50% from the field, hitting four shots from beyond the arc.
As a team, Roberts Wesleyan shot 37% from the field and a solid 72% at the free-throw line.
The win is Roberts Wesleyan's third in the row, the longest streak of the season since winning five consecutive early in the season. They are now 9-8 overall and 5-6 in East Coast Conference action.
The victory also marks the sweep of the Thruway rivals, as the Redhawks downed Daemen 79-69 at home on Nov. 26.
Roberts Wesleyan is off until Saturday when they host New York Institute of Technology in a 2pm game, which is a part of the annual Alumni Day and Athletic Hall of Fame Induction activities.
