Women's Basketball Couldn't Comeback at District of Columbia

Washington, D.C. (February 16, 2014) – The Women's Basketball team fell to University of the District of Columbia 61 -71.

The Redhawks trailed UDC from the beginning, the score was only tied once at the beginning of the game with a jumper by Samantha Courtney. Courtney notched the only double double from the game with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The largest lead by UDC also came in the first half, with 4:39 left to go, Milena Bubnejevic of UDC hit a 3 pointer and gave UDC a lead of 12. Roberts fought back and brought the lead down to 39 -30 by the end of the half.

Chelsea Sanders was a stand out for Roberts scoring a game high 23 points. She also put up 7 rebounds and 4 assists.  Junior Marissa Sell also scored double figures for Roberts with 13 points.

In the second half, Roberts attempted to come back sever times and was able to get within 2 points of UDC several times in the last 7 minutes of the game. But each time UDC came back definitively.  UDC's bench scored an impressive 31 points compared to the Redhawk bench only scoring 5 points.

As a team, the Redhawks were 44.8% from the field, 21.4% for threes and 46.2% from the line.

The loss brings Roberts record to 11-11 and 7-9 in the ECC.

The Redhawks return home looking for a win against University of Bridgeport this Friday February 21 at 6pm.
