Women's Lacrosse Defeats Converse (S.C.) in Season Opener, 17-10

SPARTANSBURG, S.C. (February 16, 2014) – Freshman Cassley Jackowski scored a game-high five goals to lead Roberts Wesleyan to a 17-10 win over Converse College.
 
The season opening win saw the Redhawks jump out to a 3-0 lead as the visitors never trailed in the first meeting between the two programs.
 
Jackowski, who was making her collegiate debut, finished the afternoon with five goals off of just eight shots while tallying four assists.
 
Both Loren Dunn and Savannah Tucker each notched four goals for Roberts Wesleyan. Dunn, a sophomore, scored all four goals in the form of free-position shots after going 4 of 5 in the game.
 
Defensively, Kelsey Covel led the team with two caused turnovers while Billie Jo Marr recorded one.
 
Sophomore Ali Fox was also productive, winning seven of the 15 draw controls for Roberts Wesleyan.
 
Between the pipes, Victoria Link played all 60 minutes, recording 14 saves for the Redhawks.
 
Converse was led by Jordy Taylor's four goals off of her 10 shots.
 
The season opening win is the second in the program's three-year history as the Redhawks defeated Catawba (N.C.) College, 16-3, in last season's opener.
 
The team has a quick turnaround as they face Shorter (Ga.) University in a neutral site contest tomorrow afternoon at 5pm.
