Stephen Stewart Scores Twice to Propel Men's Soccer Past Pitt-Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (Sep. 9, 2014) – Roberts Wesleyan continued their unbeaten streak to start the season with a resounding 5-1 win at Pitt-Johnstown this afternoon.

The Redhwawks were paced by a pair of goals from Stephen Stewart, who netted the first goal of the game in the 23rd minute in the form of a header off of a Michael Cunningham cross into the box.

Just two minutes later, Cunningham and Stewart traded roles as Cunningham made the finish after receiving a cross into the area from Stewart.

Stewart then finished the scoring burst with a second goal a minute later, giving Roberts Wesleyan a commanding 3-0 lead going into halftime.

After Pitt-Johnstown got one back in the 47th minute from Colin Michalski, Malcolm Shaw scored his first goal of the season in the 66th minute before Garth Brungard added the fifth goal for the Redhawks with just two minutes remaining.

In all, Cunningham finished the game with his one goal and three assists while Stewart scored twice with an assist and Shaw notching one goal and two assists.

In goal, Michael Scavone allowed just his first goal of the season while only needing to make two saves in the game. Conversely, Pitt-Johnstown' goalkeeper was pelted with 12 shots on goal as he stopped seven shots.

The win puts Roberts Wesleyan at 2-0-1 on the early seas as they now travel to Massachusetts this weekend with games at Stonehill and Assumption.
