Men's Soccer Edges NYIT in Overtime, 1-0

Malcolm Shaw netted the game-winner in the 95th minute to lift the Redhawks past NYIT

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Junior Malcolm Shaw proved to be the hero for Roberts Wesleyan this afternoon, scoring five minutes into overtime to give the Redhawks a 1-0 victory at NYIT.

Roberts Wesleyan played with ten men for most of the game after Kehinde Aderounmu picked up a red card inside the penalty box in the 12th minute. However, on the ensuing penalty kick, senior goalkeeper Michael Scavone  pushed away Gonzalo Barroso's attempt to keep the clean sheet.

Turning Point
The game winner came in the 95th minute when Shaw found himself in open space and was one-on-one with the Bears' goalkeeper, sending his ninth goal of the season to the back of the net on the right side.

Individual Leaders
- Scavone made 11 saves in the win, giving him his  third shutout and fourth win of the season.
- Senior forward Garth Brungard place two of his three shots on goal for the Redhawks.

- Despite playing a man down for most of the game, Roberts Wesleyan was able to apply their fair share of pressure as they had five corner kicks while NYIT had seven.
- after being outshot 12 to 2 in the first half, Roberts Wesleyan then outshot the Bears 6 to 5 in the second half and 3 to 2 in overtime.

News & Notes
- The Redhawks have now won two of their last three games as they wrap up the season with a pair of home games.
- Roberts Wesleyan remains undefeated in games that go into overtime as they improved to 2-0-2.
