Bridegport Conn. (February 13, 2015) - The Women's Basketball team celebrated a 73-61 victory over ECC contenders University of Bridgeport this evening.
This is the second match up between Roberts Wesleyan and Bridgeport, the Redhawks won earlier in the season at home with a 74-56 final score. The women's team found success as the away team this time.The win gives the Redhawks a record of 15-5 and 10-4 in the ECC.
Bridgeport Starts StrongRoberts Wesleyan took the lead first with a quick layup by Samantha Courtney. The Knights were quick to come back minutes later with a three pointer by Bridgport's Jennifer Kucukkaya. Kucukkaya led the Knights with 15 points. Bridgeport then took control of the game taking them to their largest lead of the game to go up 18-7 leaving just 13 minutes left.Bridgeport had strong shooting from several of their player. Tiara Aziz contributed 14 points and Morgan Caution ended with eight. Defensively Jenna Hoffman led Bridgeport with 11 rebounds.Roberts Wesleyan Makes a RunWith just five minutes to go in the first half, the Redhawks went on a 8-2 run to take their largest lead of 13. Bridgeport was not ready to give up and brought Roberts Wesleyan lead down to just 6 to end the half 42-36.The Redhawks held on to their lead to their lead starting the second half strong. Roberts Wesleyan kept the lead for the entire half. While Bridgeport tried several times to take the lead bringing the lead down to three, but the Redhawks were able to keep their lead and end the match up ahead by 12.Top Scoring by the Redhawks Roberts Wesleyan boasted four players in double digits, as well as four players shooting perfectly from the line.Senior
Marissa Sell lead the game in points with 19, she also earned a double double with 15 rebounds. Sell now has 969 career rebounds in a great spot to break Janette Glover's record at Roberts Wesleyan with 981 reboudns.

Lucy Covley also contributed 17 points and was three of four from long range. As a whole the Redhawks shot 60% from beyond the arc.
Other impact players included
Samantha Courtney with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Brooke Fields, a freshman, totaled 12 points and lead with four assists. Defensively
Carneisha Henry added eight rebounds.
The Redhawks look to pick up another road win tomorrow where they play Dowling tomorrow Saturday February 14th at 12.
