ROCHESTER, N.Y. (March 4, 2015) – Roberts Wesleyan bowed out of the East Coast Conference tournament in the quarterfinals this evening as the No. 6 Spartans came away with a 69-58 road win.
The No. 3 Redhawks were led by senior forward
Marissa Sell, who picked up her 20
th double-double after scored a team-high 15 points and hauling in 13 rebounds.
Roberts Wesleyan led several times in the game, including a three-point 36-33 advantage with 16:16 remaining after a short 8-1 run to start the half.
St. Thomas Aquinas then went on a 10-2 run over the next four minutes to take a five-point lead over the Redhawks. They would never relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
Joining Sell in double-digits was freshman
Lucy Covley, who notched 10 points after hitting 2 of 3 from beyond the arc and 4 of 7 from the field. Her classmate Brook Fields added eight points and four assists in the loss.
With the loss, Roberts Wesleyan wraps up their impressive season with a 20-7 record, which is the most wins since the 2011-12 season.
Up next for the Spartans is a meeting with No. 2 Queens on Saturday at LIU Post in the second semifinal at 2:30 p.m.
