Women's Lacrosse Nearly Upsets No. 18 Dowling on Senior Day

The Redhawks almost pulled off a thrilling upset in the season finale before falling to Dowling, 12-11

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 25, 2015) – Fighting for their postseason lives, Roberts Wesleyan nearly pulled the upset before falling to No. 18 Dowling, 12-11, in the season finale.

Roberts Wesleyan needed a win in their last game to have just a shot at making the ECC tournament. For much of the second half, it appeared that the Redhawks would get that win.

After conceding five goals to start the game, Roberts Wesleyan came to life as they ended the first half with a 7 to 1 run in a span of just ten minutes. At the break, the Redhawks held a slim 7-6 advantage after putting 12 of their 15 shots on frame.

The second half saw the teams exchanging the lead until Roberts Wesleyan scored three times to give them an 11-9 lead with just under 16 minutes left to play.

Dowling, who had already sealed up the second seed in the ECC tournament, got one two minutes later to make it a one-goal game before scoring twice in the final minutes to steal the win.

Cassley Jackowski led Roberts Wesleyan in the loss with four goals and an assist as Loren Dunn also scored four times. The duo finished the year with 42 and 54 goals respectively.

Junior midfielder Ali Fox added two goals to go along with a pair of assists.

Victoria Del Nero, who made just her second start of the season, kept the Redhawks in contention with 13 saves.

Despite the loss, Roberts Wesleyan has reached new heights under second-year head coach Kate Sedgwick. The 2015 campaign saw the Redhawks earn their first winning season while also picking up the most wins in a single season in the program's short four-year history.
