WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior
Sam Moody's two first half goals were not enough on Wednesday afternoon as the Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team fell to the University of the District of Columbia, 4-2.
Moody put the Redhawks up 2-1 in the first half with goals in the 13
th minute and 24
th minute. The defender's first goal of the game came off a free kick taken 18 yards out that ricocheted off the right post into the goal. On the second goal Moody connected on a header off a long thrown in by fellow central defender
Elijah Jarvis. It was Moody's fourth and fifth goals of the season.
The Firebirds answered with a penalty kick goal just over 10 minutes later to tie the score at 2-2. Gabriel Torres was the goal scorer for his second of the game. His first goal came in the 7
th minute of play.
UDC scored the game-winner just under five minutes into the second half. Raphael Pacano's goal at the 49:46 mark was assisted on by Torres and Luciano Cahe. The Firebirds added the insurance goal in the 85
th minute to take a 4-2 lead.
Roberts faced an onslaught of shots in the game with UDC firing off 26 shots to seven from the Redhawks. Senior goalkeeper
John Ciavaglia made eight saves in the game.
The Redhawks (3-11, 1-6 ECC) head into the final three games of the season. They will take on Mercy on Saturday at 3 p.m. before hosting the final two games of the season next week.
