BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Six players scored in double digits for the Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team as the Redhawks defeated Bridgeport on the road on Friday evening, 77-56.
Both
Emily Miller and
Taylor Bynoe posted double-doubles in the game. Miller scored 13 points and led with 12 rebounds. Bynoe finished the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Senior
Necedah James was the leading point scorer for Roberts with 14 points.
The only time the Redhawks trailed in the game was in the second quarter at the 5:32 mark for a 45 second span. The Redhawks regained the lead with 4:47 left in the quarter and used a 12-0 run to close out the half to take a 37-28 lead into the break. Roberts did not relinquish the advantage for the rest of the game.
Roberts used a strong fourth quarter to put the game out of reach of the Purple Knights, outscoring the hosts 26-10. Free throw shooting was key in the quarter as the Redhawks went 16-of-16 from the line and was 20-of-21 (95%) in the second half. In total Roberts went 27-of-32 (84%) on free throws while the Purple Knights shot just 11 free throws in the game, making seven.

Along with a balanced scoring attack, the Redhawks jumped on the boards, outrebounding Bridgeport 52-42, including 18 offensive rebounds. Miller and Bynoe totaled for 11 of those offensive boards.
Bridgeport was led by sophomore Briana Stoddart's 11 points.
Roberts Wesleyan moves to 6-4 on the season and 2-1 in the East Coast Conference while Bridgeport falls to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in the ECC.
Next up for the Redhawks is a road game against Mercy College on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
