Bridgeport, Conn. – Second half struggles doomed the Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team on Monday night as they lost to the University of Bridgeport, 79-73.
The Redhawks held an 11 point lead at halftime, but a third quarter collapse gave the Purple Knights a lead that they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game. Roberts was outscored 25-8 in the quarter giving Bridgeport a six point advantage heading into the final quarter. The Redhawks only scored one field goal in the quarter before the Purple Knights went on a 20-0 run.
In the fourth quarter, Roberts Wesleyan fought through a 10 point deficit to bring the score within three with 11 seconds left but it was too little, too late as Bridgeport went 6-for-6 from the free throw line to seal the win.
Brooke Fields and
Emily Miller both scored 17 points to lead the Redhawks.
The Purple Knights were led by Evelyn Ovner who scored 19 points.
Roberts Wesleyan (16-11, 10-7 ECC) currently sits in fourth place in the East Coast Conference standings and will host Daemen College for the last regular season game on Saturday in the Voller Athletic Center.
