BUFFALO, N.Y. / ALFRED, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's and women's swim programs had a busy weekend in the pool with back-to-back days of competition, starting first on Friday with a dual meet against Erie Community College followed by a long day at the Pioneer Invitational hosted by Alfred State College.
Both the men's and women's team's fell to Erie Community College in the dual meet. The men lost 136-31 while the women fell 113-87. In Saturday's invitational the men placed fourth out of five teams with 122 points. The women took second overall with 250 points behind Alfred State's 576 points.
In the dual meet against E.C.C
Jesse Gunn and
Camryn Perry were the first place finishers for the Redhawks. Gunn won the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 2:24.07 which was three seconds faster than her seeded time. Perry won both the 100 yard butterfly (1:26.72) and 100 yard backstroke (1:12.06).
On the men's side Ryan Hardy placed second in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:44.29, under 10 seconds faster than his previous seeded time.
In the Pioneer Invitational Gunn's race in the 1650 yard freestyle provided a highlight finish as the freshman took first place beating Alfred State's second place finisher to the wall by just .04 seconds. Gunn also had a second place finish in the 500 yard freestyle (6:14.10).
Other standout performances include Perry's second place finish in the 100 yard backstroke (1:12.51) and 200 yard backstroke (2:40.33).
Julia Barnwell also had a second place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:22.56.
The Redhawks will be in action again on Wednesday January 24 when they will compete in a dual meet against Monroe Community College.
