Men’s Soccer Finishes Regular Season In Loss To Bridgeport

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team fell to the University of Bridgeport, 3-2 on Saturday evening after celebrating three seniors on Senior Day.

The Purple Knights of Bridgeport opened up the scoring in the 1st minute as attacker Tom Godden was dished a pass inside the box, successfully attempting a shot for a goal. Only a few moments later, Redhawks forward Alex Perez Vega answered with a shot from the left side ten yards out that evened up the score 1-1.

In the 13th minute the Redhawks would yet again score another goal making it 2-1 Redhawks. This goal came from Roberts defender Karl McNulty after dibbling past a defender or two and placing a shot into the back of the opposition's net. However, the Knights would not let the Redhawks' lead last much longer. Bridgeport's Oscar Facey took a shot from 20 yards out in the 30th minute that ended up deflecting off of another player and into the goal.

A shear battle of possession late in the game, the Redhawks drew an unfortunate foul that led to a penalty kick opportunity. Purple Knights attacker Eriend Skagestad's attempt would get past the Roberts goalkeeper, making the final score 3-2.

Bridgeport ended the game with 12 of their 31 shots on goal while the Redhawks finished with five shots on goal. Goalkeepers Joe McNulty and Ben Hastings split time in net. Hastings added two saves to his season total and McNulty added seven.
