Strong Second Half Propels Redhawks Over NYIT

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – In a low scoring game the Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team came out with a 55-44 win over NYIT on Friday night at Recreation Hall.

Emily Miller and Taya Andrews both posted double-doubles to lead the Redhawks to win number 19 on the season. Miller finished the game with 12 points and 12 rebounds while Andrews combined for 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The low scoring contest was the result of a poor shooting first half for both teams. The Redhawks were 28-percent from the field on 8-of-28 shooting and just 1-of-11 (9%) from three point range. The Bears fared even worse with a 6-of-35 (17%) shooting performance. Roberts held a 22-16 lead after the first half of play.

The second half saw more efficient offense with the Redhawks shooting at 46-percent and NYIT shooting at 42-percent.

Roberts (19-8, 13-4 ECC) will take on LIU Post on Sunday in the final game of the regular season. Regardless of the game's outcome the Redhawks own the No. 3 seed for post season play which means the team will host a home play-in game on Wednesday, February 28th in the Voller Athletic Center.
