ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's lacrosse team couldn't come away with its first ever East Coast Conference post season victory, falling to Molloy on Tuesday, 21-13 in the quarterfinals of the ECC Championships.
Molloy attacked from the very first whistle, scoring 62 seconds into the game. The Lions didn't slow down the offensive pressure netting seven more goals to take an 8-0 lead before the Redhawks could get on the board.
Johannah Price's goal at the 8:43 mark of the first half cut the Redhawks deficit to five, but that's as close as the score would get for the remainder of the contest.
Starting goalkeeper
Victoria Greco made 19 saves in net facing a barrage of shots throughout the night. Greco had 52 shots taken on her with 40 on target while Roberts took 24 shots with 21 on frame.
Roberts gained the edge in ground balls, 20-18 but the Lions took advantage of the draw controls, 25-8.
Freshmen
Emily Tomei and
Taylor Nathan both had three goals each to lead the scoring.
Megan Burnham added two goals and one assist.
The Redhawks are still in search of a playoff win, but have now made the ECC Championships for the second straight year. Previous to last season Roberts had never earned a post season berth. The Redhawks finished the season 9-9 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
