Women's Bowling Wins Grapevine Classic

ERIE, Pa. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's bowling team kicked the 2019-2020 season off over the weekend at the Grapevine Classic earning its first-ever team tournament win in program history. The Redhawks finished the tournament with an 8-2 record.
 
On the first day of the Grapevine Classic the Redhawks grabbed two straight wins in traditional match play, defeating D'Youville, 819-754 and Ursuline, 866-797. The Redhawks then lost to Walsh, 826-784 but rebounded with a key win over Daemen. In the final match of the day Roberts again fell to Walsh.
 
On the second day of the tournament, Roberts went a perfect 5-0 in the baker-formatted matches, picking up wins over Penn State Behrend, Villa Maria, Pittsburgh Bradford, D'Youville, and Daemen. The five wins propelled the team to overtake first place and become the overall tournament champions by a two-win margin over Walsh.
 
As a team, the Redhawks had an average score per game of 170.7, which was nearly five points higher than second place Walsh. Kayla Kawyn led Roberts placing fourth in the individual standings with a 185.20 scoring average, including a game-high of 202. She was also named to the All-Tournament team. Linsey Anders also broke into the top 10 with a 169 scoring average.
 
Up next for the Redhawks is the Mount Shootout hosted by Mount St. Mary's University. The tournament is set to begin on Saturday, October 19.
