Men's Soccer Win Streak Ends in 4-0 Loss to Mercy

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – A rough outing on Saturday saw the Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team fall 4-0 to Mercy College and drop to second place in the East Coast Conference standings. The Redhawks also saw its four game win streak end.

The sixth-ranked team in the region only held a 1-0 advantage in the first half. Ignacio Mangada scored a goal in the 39th minute to give the Mavericks the lead. Less than a minute later the Redhawks were awarded a penalty kick and the chance to even the game up at 1-1. But senior Dan Reger could not capitalize on the penalty kick.

The score remained only 1-0 throughout the majority of the second half but in the final ten minutes of the contest the Mavericks poured on three additional goals.

The loss brings the Redhawks ECC record to 5-2 and places them second overall in the conference behind the now No. 1 Mavericks who also have a 5-2 record.

Roberts will play away at Bridgeport next Saturday in the final regular season game. The Purple Knights sit in third place after a loss today against Molloy. The Redhawks need a tie or win over Bridgeport next week to hold the second place standing.
