ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team took down Lancaster Bible College in the NCCAA Midwest Region semifinals 2-1 Wednesday night.
The Redhawks got off to a quick start with a goal from East Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year Dylan Ruiz off an assist from Marc-Anthony Blackburn at the sixth minute. For the remainder of the first half Roberts kept control of the game out shooting the Chargers 11 to three and but did not find the back of the net leaving the game at a 1-0 in favor of Roberts.
The second half brought another early goal for Roberts from Juan Ospina-Bentancurt and dual assist from Dylan Ruiz and Barrington Smith evading the Chargers goalkeeper and sinking it through the center middle of the net. While multiple opportunities were presented for Lancaster, Redhawks defense kept the box clear until the 77th minute when the Chargers were able to get a point on the board moving the game to 2-1.
The remainder of the game was scoreless between the two teams and with goalkeeper Jared Gibbons making a difficult save off a corner kick to keep the Roberts on top.
