Women's Bowling Places Fourth at Medaille Invitational

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's bowling team finished fourth overall at the Medaille Invitational over the weekend going 5-5 in the tournament.
 
On Saturday the Redhawks competed in five traditional games going 3-2 in play. Roberts opened up with an 844-806 victory over Penn State Behrend. Following a loss to Mercyhurst the Redhawks came up with a three-pin win over Villa Maria, 847-844 and then continued in the next game with a win over D'Youville, 858-794.
 
Junior Kayla Kawyn led the scoring efforts with a 950 overall which earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team and second overall individually. Fellow junior Sarah Gerken was 10th overall in individual scoring with an 849.
 
On Sunday, the tournament opened up with three total pinfall baker games to determine seeding for the tournament bracket. The Redhawks landed an opening win of 836-742 against Pitt-Bradford.
 
For the second match of the day, the Redhawks took on Daemen, and came out with an 845-804 victory over the Wildcats. But in the final seeding match Roberts could not get the win over tournament host Medaille, losing 951-826.
 
With a second place seed going into the semi-final round of the tournament Roberts would again take on Daemen in a best of seven baker match. The Wildcats took the match in four straight games.
 
In the consolation bracket Roberts faced off against D'Youville. The team took an early 2-0 lead but D'Youville found its way back into the game winning the next four straight to win the match.
 
Roberts is now 13-15 overall this season and will host its first tournament on Saturday and Sunday in Lockport, N.Y.
