ROCHESTER, N.Y.– On Friday night at the Voller Athletic Center, the Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team defeated ECC opponent NYIT in overtime, 84-79.
The Redhawks ended the night by going 32-for-66 (49%) from the field, 5-for-18 (28%) from three-point range, and 15-for-18 (83%) from the foul line. The Bears of NYIT finished by going 28-for-61 (46%) from the field, and 11-for-25 (44%) on three-pointers.
The first half started as a back-to-back battle as each team answered one another. Roberts would go on to end the first quarter with a three-point lead.
The second quarter began with a two good free throws from junior
Emily Miller. Miller would go on to score 21 points and add nine rebounds and two assists. Roberts would end up going into the half down by eight.
To start the second half, Roberts would pick away at the Bears' lead, eventually ending up ahead by one point at the end of the third quarter after a layup made in the paint by
Sara Nady. NYIT eventually would go on to take a six-point lead in the fourth quarter. The Redhawks challenged the Bears on every shot made after this point as aggressive play from senior
Taylor Bynoe and three point opportunities from freshman
Taryn Wilson would aid in evening the score line at 72-72 at the end of regulation. Impeccable defense and capitalizing on drawn fouls for free throws would help seal the victory for the Redhawks.
Next up for the Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team (10-13, 6-7 ECC) is another home matchup against LIU Post on Sunday, February 17. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 PM at the Voller Athletic Center.
