Women's Lacrosse Defeats Visiting Mercyhurst

Burnham Tallies 100th Career-Point

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior Megan Burnham tallied her 100th career-point on an assist as the Roberts Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team defeated Mercyhurst University, 11-7, on Tuesday afternoon on the Roberts Turf.

Roberts improved to 9-2 overall on the season and the Lakers drop to 4-4 on the year.

The Lakers took an early 1-0 lead to open up the contest, but it didn't last long as sophomore Emily Tomei got the scoring going as she tied the game at one which sparked a Redhawks 3-0 run. Junior Jessica Giancursio scored back-to-back unassisted goals in a matter of 3:27 to put Roberts in front.  Mercyhurst made it a 3-2 game with 20:40 before Roberts put together a 6-1 run going into halftime.

Giancursio tallied her third unassisted goal of the game to make it a 10-3 lead just a 1:31 into the second half. Mercyhurst attempted to chip away at the lead as it netted back-to-back goals to make it, 10-5 (15:01). The Redhawks added another goal in the half as sophomore Taylor Nathan found the back of the net with 10:57 remaining in the contest. A late rally by the Lakers came up short as they scored a pair of goals to close out game.

Six of the 11 goals scored by Roberts were unassisted.

Both Giancursio and senior Emily Knight tallied four points (three goals and an assist a piece). Giancursio and Knight each registered season-highs in goals with three.

Junior goalie Victoria Greco registered 16 saves to improve to 8-2 on the season.

The Redhawks are home again this Saturday at 2 p.m. against conference foe NYIT.
